Center for Global South and Public Diplomacy (CGSPD) rooted in Vietnam’s diplomatic tradition and strategic positioning as a pivotal Southeast Asian and Global South nation, the center dedicates itself to high-quality policy research, public diplomacy innovation, and inclusive international academic exchange.
Against the backdrop of shifting global governance and the rising collective voice of Global South countries, CGSPD fills the research gap in Vietnam’s strategic communication and South-South cooperation studies. The center focuses on four core domains: Global South strategic studies, national soft power and public diplomacy, Indo-Pacific geopolitics and regional security, and geoeconomic cooperation. It systematically tracks global and regional strategic dynamics, produces authoritative policy briefs, in-depth analysis reports.
As a key Track-II diplomacy platform in Vietnam, CGSPD maintains extensive cooperative relations with mainstream think tanks, universities, and research institutions across Southeast Asia and Global South nations. It regularly hosts international seminars, scholar exchange programs, and joint research projects to promote academic dialogue and practical cooperation among developing countries.
Global South Order & Multilateral Diplomacy
Examining international restructuring, strategic autonomy of smaller states, and Vietnam’s multilateral positioning; enhancing voice in the UN, NAM, and ASEAN; and advancing South-South cooperation on climate, debt, and development finance.
Public Diplomacy & Soft Power Communication
Building Vietnam’s soft power and communication systems, digital diplomacy, and youth-oriented image-building; analysing ASEAN public diplomacy integration; and crafting crisis response strategies for international discourse with Southern empathy.
Geopolitics & Geo-economics
Assessing Southeast Asian hedging and cooperation amid Indo-Pacific great power rivalry; studying Mekong connectivity risks and value; exploring Vietnam’s trade upgrading via Global South markets; and advancing ocean-governance voice for Southern states.
